  • Positioning The Solar / Battery Inverter

    The installation engineer will at first walk through with the customer, the details and locations of all equipment to ensure that the information taken in the site surveys are still accurate. In particular attention will be paid to positioning of the batteries.

    The best position for the solar / battery inverter can depend on a variety of factors, high voltage DC coupled units such as the Solaredge-Tesla combination can have large distances between the solar inverter and battery, so the two units can be in totally sepearte areas of the building. Alternatively, a low voltage DC or AC coupled inverter needs to be situated within a couple of meters of the battery.

    Inverters are often situated in the loft, so a retofitted low voltage DC coupled system such as a SolaX X hybrid unit will require the battery to be installed into the loft alongside, if space, access and weight restrictions allow. Batteries can be extremely heavy so proper Health and Safety precautions have to be taken. Alternatively the inverter may have to be relocated.

    The Battery / Inverter unit is most often the main control unit for the for the equipment, requiring communications cables to the battery, internet and incoming mains supply, alongside AC, DC and earth connections. Correct and neat cable routing to the various items is essential.

  • Installation of the Battery

    The battery is the heaviest componant in the installation with a weight of up to 100kgs, they are often complete units which cannot be disassembled. Positioning the battery safely and securely is extremely important. In addition some batteries will respond poorly to extreme environmental conditions and can generate some noise during operation.

    Some units are floorstanding only while others are wall hung only. Either way due care must be taken for safety, and it will oftern require the selection of a battery solution to fit the design constraints of the desired location.

  • Wiring

    As previously mentioned there are several wiring requirements for the battery and inverter. The control unit needs to be able monitor the performance of the battery including charge levels in internal tempreture, along with the generation produced from the panels and balence those factors with the electricty supply and usage within the property. In addition this information is distributed through the internet.

    In line with buiulding regulations the cables are routed to the approriate locations using the most discrete methods possible.

  • Testing and Commisioning

    The final part of the installation is to test and certify any new circuits under the requiments of Part P of building build ing regulations, and then commission the system.

    During the commissioning process, the various componants are individually tested and initialised, the specific feild settings are uploaded into the system. As most storage systems offer cloud based monitoring software, a network connection is establised and a customer account is created and checked.

    The handover paperwork is completed and the customer is walked through a demonstation of the system
